Description
Green Leaf Pink Winter Daphne is a superstar of an evergreen flowering shrub heralding the arrival of spring with its intoxicating perfume. The highly fragrant blooms are crystalline white inside and purplish-pink outside, standing out nicely against dense, glossy, deep solid green leaves on a rounded mound to about 3 high and wide over time. Flowering occurs sometime in January or February (depending on location) and continues through March or April, when not mulch else is blooming.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing in a dense, rounded mound 3 to 4 feet tall and wide, the Greenleaf Pink Winter Daphne is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings, or as a natural evergreen hedge in shady landscape borders and home foundation plantings. Excellent evergreen shrub for use under the canopies of large shade trees. Plant it near windows, patios, decks, porches and other outdoor living spaces where the wonderful fragrance can be enjoyed. A fine addition to Asian gardens, fragrance gardens, woodland gardens, cottage gardens, pink theme gardens, and Xeriscape gardens (low water needs).
Suggested Spacing:Â Â 2-3′ for solid hedges; 6′ or more for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Despite the remarkable variety of gardening myths about its requirements, Winter Daphne is easy to grow. Know that it must have a very well-drained soil. Constantly soggy or wet soil causes root rot. Plant in deep shade or part shade. No direct afternoon sun. In our gardens, Winter Daphne thrives in deep shade under the canopies of large shade trees where not many other evergreen shrubs will grow. That said, plants will tolerate the morning sun. These plants are exceptionally drought tolerant when established. We never water the plants growing in our gardens during the winter dormant season.

So far, these guys (Wilson Bros) are knocking it out of the park. A few weeks ago, I placed an order for 2 green leaf Daphne at 3:15 PM…the order was packed and ready for ground shipping 3 hours later. The plants arrived less than 48 hours after ordering in near-perfect condition and appeared healthy and ready to go.
I have ordered from multiple online nurseries and they all have their strengths and weaknesses. Wilson Bros. only weakness, if you can call it that, would be their price point. There are no great deals here, but if you are OK understanding that the shipping is included and their attention to detail and customer service is outstanding, and their selection of product is expansive, then this the online nursery for you.
As for the Daphnes, they are in the ground and doing fine and I have no reason to think they won’t be around for years to come. I will amend my review should their performance be less than expected.———————————WBG Reply: Hi John, Thanks so much for taking the time to provide your review of the Greenleaf Pink Winter Daphne.
