Description
A supersized and super-fast growing Carex that can achieve 2 feet in height with a spread of over 4 feet in just a couple years, ‘Feather Falls’ forms a gracefully cascading mound of striking green and white striped grassy leaves with a lovely waterfall form. Excellent as a specimen, in groupings or as a border in the landscape and truly spectacular in pots, planters and other containers where the foliage will spill over the edges like a waterfall. This one has more sun tolerance than other variegated Carex oshimensis, plus good heat tolerance, but we still say no direct midafternoon sun.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Its clumping rather than spreading growth habit to 18 to 24 inches tall and 4 feet or more wide make Feather Falls Sedge ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings or as a border around patios or along walks and pathways. Truly spectacular as a solo in containers where it’s arching foliage will cascade over the pots edge. Also effective as an underplanting for shade trees and smaller trees such as Japanese maples. A fine addition to ornamental grass gardens, rock gardens, shade gardens and tropical look gardens. Â
Suggested Spacing:Â 18 inches apart for mass plantings or solid border edging; 36 inches or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences
This Carex is very easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and part sun, preferably morning sun with afternoon shade. Avoid direct afternoon sun. Almost maintenance free and slowly forms a clump by spreading roots but is not invasive at all. We rarely fertilize or prune it. In areas that experience colder winters the foliage may need to be groomed or cut back to the ground before new growth emerges in spring.
